Implied Texture Prints

As Art I students have recently learned,
there are two types of texture in art: real and implied.

In order to study implied texture
(the texture you see, but can't touch),
students created patterned designs
and then printed these designs on watercolor paintings.

Look how beautiful the prints turned out!

Value

In art,
value refers to how light or dark something appears.
In order to study value in Art I,
we created two different projects:
a colored pencil drawing of shaded ribbons and spheres
as well as a pen drawing, which we created with a stippling technique.
Take a look at the results of our hard work!

Shape and Form Triptych

In Art I,
we just finished studying the elements of shape and form.
To further study these elements, we created two collages
(one with geometric shapes and one with organic),
as well as a paper sculpture.

It's amazing how many different solutions we came up with
for this one artistic problem!

we're learning about the artist Vincent van Gogh
and his well-known artwork, The Starry Night

Art I students,
as you complete your Art Identification assignment on The Starry Night,
you may wish to check out Google Art Project.
It has loads of awesome information about van Gogh's painting.

You can even zoom in on The Starry Night
to see the brush strokes and cracks in the paint!

What's in your Head?

These days in Art I,
we're learning how to express ourselves, visually.
As a personal expression project,
we filled our silhouettes with images that reflected our identities.
We're all so unique.
